This piece marks the first time I’ve ever written a word in this room, chair, or space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The upside is that the sun hits this ground-level hovel from about 0830 to 1400hrs. The window to my right is bright, and I can watch for package deliveries from Chewy, my publisher, and the stupid things I buy without a real need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I bought a wheelchair for my dad’s last days; it was dropped off in the driveway beside this window on the day he passed. It was wishful thinking. I believed I could wrangle him into the chair and push him to a big sunny room adjacent to his and mom’s apartment. I know he also liked the feeling of sun on his face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Truth revealed I shouldn’t have ordered it. It was wishful thinking. I left it boxed and put it into his old bedroom near a canister of golf balls that have been a static supply\/display since he gave up doing three or four holes with his friend, Jimmy, every now and then, on the good days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I’ll need a wheelchair sooner or later, and now I have one. There’s a sentence that no one wants to scribble on paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The real victim in the part-time office merger is Ellie. She has no idea why she’s on the rug beside my chair. The height of her window seat is better on the second deck of the house for her to oversee her domain. She will manage. I’ve not given her a hassock. Maybe she will make adjustments to her lifestyle. We all must from time to time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Security is essential, as is barking. Right now, she’s just whimpering every few minutes to tell me that this is not optimal for a dog.<\/p>\n\n\n
